COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
This course will focus on understanding the development of the Middle Ages around the world for one semester and Washington State History for the other. Students will analyze major ideas, developments, and turning points to understand the chronology of world and state events. In addition, students will interpret current events and how these relate to their studies and the world around them. Course curriculum includes the following:
a. Investigations of cause and effect relationships of historical events.
b. Specific reading strategies aimed at improving comprehension in vocabulary and non-fiction text.
c. Develop skills to understand maps, photographs, charts, timelines, tables, and graphs to be able to obtain information.
d. Use critical thinking skills to analyze information and author’s perspective.
e. Develop skills and ideas for locating information on the Internet.
f. Explore how the interactions of human societies have impacted cultures and environments.
g. Identify current social issues and define problems.
COURSE
GOALS:
During the course of this study, students will be expected to:
a. Read assigned material, take notes, and complete any accompanying assignments.
b. Use
a variety of materials including web sources to research and present
information on the development of the Middle Ages and the changes in
c. Read related historical fiction or non-fiction works and present perspective differences.
d. Demonstrate knowledge through written tests and possible semester cumulative test.
e. Participate in both small and large group discussions and activities.
f. Learn a variety of ways to organize information using various methods such as webs or clusters, graphic organizers, and different styles of note taking.

GRADING:
1. Grades will be weighted by the following

Assignments and Projects – 55% Tests – 45%
2. Specific assignment grading will be discussed when
the assignment is given.
